(Atlantic, IA) – The Atlantic Park Commission celebrated the official opening of Harl Holt Playground with the community on Thursday morning. Harl Holt Park has been full ever since the completion of the pour-and-place surface for all the kids in the Atlantic area to have a safe place to play. Atlantic Parks and Recreation Coordinator, Jeff Christensen, spoke on how this development is better than he could’ve ever asked for growing up in the area.
The pour-and-place surface at the park offers a cushion for children when they fall and are having fun on the equipment. While expensive, the material is on a warranty and requires zero maintenance.
Atlantic Park and Advisory Commission Board Member, Kevin Ferguson, recalls his time growing up near Bull Creek where the park currently stands. Not only was he able to enjoy playing at the park as a child, but his children played at the park that they called “Grandma’s Park” while they were growing up near 17th Street. He is now excited to bring his grandchildren to enjoy making more memories at “Grandma’s Park.”
The Atlantic Park Commission will now utilize this successful park to move forward with development and funding for other parks across the City of Atlantic. Harl Holt Park is located just off the corner of 16th and Olive Street in the heart of Atlantic.
