Robert “Bob” Straka, 76, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Atlantic Specialty Care in Atlantic.
Robert Joseph was born on February 22, 1947, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Edward and Irene (Nemec) Straka. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army Reserves.
On December 27, 1991, he was united in marriage to Suzanne Jones Haber at the Foursquare Lighthouse on the Hill Church in Omaha and along with her children they became a family. Suzanne’s children shared the following memories of Bob: He was a gifted sign painter and owned a remodeling business for many years. The couple enjoyed camping, being active members of The Gideon’s and helping out in many facets of the Open Door Mission. No matter where he lived, he was active in his church, faith was an important part of his life. Bob enjoyed signing while worshiping his savior Jesus Christ. We know that he is now rejoicing & resting in the presence of his Lord & Savior.
In 1999, the couple moved to an acreage near Exira, Iowa. Suzanne died on January 28, 2004.
On August 5, 2017, he was united in marriage to Pamra Charleen Murray at the New Life Church in Atlantic. The couple looked forward to attending the Cass County Fair and the Iowa State Fair. Vacationing in Branson, camping and fishing together were times they cherished. Bob and Pam were members of New Life Church.
Bob is survived by his son, Randall (Amber) Straka and their daughters, Mary and Marla and Sue’s five daughters and their families, Jeannie, Kathy, Laurie, Merry Jo & Wendy.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wives, Suzanne and Pamra; Sue’s daughter, Wendy; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia (Carl) Haas; and brother-in-law, Ronald Murray.
A Celebration of Life Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Brighton Township Cemetery, north of Marne, with Pastor Ben Winford of New Life Church officiating. Immediately following the service a time of visitation, that will include lunch, will be held at Roland Funeral Home.
