(Lincoln, NE) – Former Harlan Cyclone, Brett Sears, has been named by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association District 6 Player of the Year. This announcement came on Friday from an announcement from the Huskers.
Sears is just the ninth Nebraska Husker to be named District Player of the Year which includes the second Husker to earn the honor since Max Anderson earned the award in 2023. The former Cyclone was one of the top players in the country with a 2.16 ERA and has posted a 9-1 record with 101 strikeouts in 104 innings. The Westphalia, Iowa native ranks fifth nationally in ERA and in WHIP at .88, 19th in strikeout-ERA at 5.32, and is 20th in hits allowed per nine innings.
The Nebraska Husker also became the first Nebraska pitcher since 1999 to earn a 9-0 record on the mound after he earned a win over Purdue. He also is the first Husker with 100+ strikeouts in a season since 2008 after earning 101, the ninth-most in Nebraska history.
