(Greenfield) As the community continues to recover from the recent tornado, here are some important updates and resources available to residents:
Critical Services at Nodaway Valley Elementary School:
- FEMA’s Disaster Relief Center: Open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Red Cross Assistance: Volunteers are available today (Friday) from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Debris Cleanup:
- All storm debris should be moved to the right-of-way by Tuesday, June 11, to facilitate cleanup efforts.
- Before taking any storm debris to the Adair County Landfill, please call 641-743-8343 for guidance.
Housing Demolition Process:
- Contact your insurance company for guidance.
- To arrange for house demolition, contact the volunteer center at 641-631-6555 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. or hire a city-approved licensed contractor.
- For sewer inspections when removing a home’s foundation, call 844-580-0810.
Contractors and Builders:
- Paid contractors must complete an application, pay a $100 fee, provide certificates of insurance, and undergo a background check at city hall before engaging with residents. Certificates of insurance can be emailed to laura.wolfe@gmu-ia.com.
- Builders must also complete an application and obtain a building permit from City Hall. For more information, call 844-580-0810, Option 1.
Free Water and Well Testing: Rural Adair County residents can access free water and well testing services through County Health Services.
Donated Items: The Adair County website has a list of donated items available for residents affected by the tornado.
