(Greenfield, IA) – The Nodaway Valley Wolverines are getting some normalcy back in their lives with the summer baseball season in full swing. While many teams were jumping onto the field just a few weeks ago, the Wolverines were jumping in to help their community in Greenfield after the recent tornado destroyed multiple buildings in the community. These boys were going out to help those who needed it most. After a few weeks, Head Coach Dan Jameson discussed the course of action he would be taking with his athletes and knew that it was time to get back on the ballfield.
Getting back out on the field is going to help the Wolverines feel that sense of normalcy back in their lives once again. Nodaway Valley hosts Earlham on Wednesday for their first home game of the season to bring in support for the community and for the athletes who make it feel special.
Speaking of those players, the Wolverines feature seniors Aidan Kuster and Deakon Mullen who come into their senior seasons with the expectation to improve after last season and get more reps in at the plate. They also feature juniors Paul Berg, Eli Harris, and Christian Putney who are looking to get the bats swinging this season. Paul Berg has a great extent of success at the plate after batting .400 with 28 hits and 16 RBIs last year.
With the early portion of the season, Nodaway Valley is looking to be selective throughout the count to eliminate strikeouts. They averaged 9.5 strikeouts last season, a number that Coach Jameson would like to see dwindle down.
The Wolverines face off against Southeast Warren on Tuesday on the road, with the opening pitch at 7:30 p.m.
