(Adair County) Officials say five people died in the powerful tornado that swept through Adams and Adair Counties in the afternoon hours of May 21. Initial National Weather Service Office reports indicate that the EF-4 tornado had winds ranging from 175-185 mph. The tornado caused extensive damage to homes and property across Adams and Adair Counties.
The following people lost their lives in this violent storm:
Victim 1:
Monica Irma Zamarron, 49, Shenandoah.
Incident Location: Adams County on Highway 148 (near Corning) after being ejected from her vehicle.
Victims 2 and 3:
Names: Dean Wiggins and Pamela Wiggins
Age: 78 and 77
From: Greenfield, IA (800 block of E. Iowa Street)
Incident Location: Passed away when the tornado struck their home.
Victim 4:
Name: Michael Jensen
Age: 73
From: Greenfield, IA (SE Jackson Street)
Incident Location: Died at his residence on SE Jackson Street in Greenfield.
Victim 5:
Name: William Williamson
Age: 70
From: Greenfield, IA (200 Block of S 5th Street)
Incident Location: Transported from residence to Greater Regional Health, where he succumbed to his injuries.
