(Atlantic) A Groundbreaking Ceremony was held this (Monday) afternoon for the new Atlantic Splash Pad.
Jeremy Butler, Splash Pad Committee Co-Chair, said this is a really exciting time for the City of Atlantic as this project has been in talks for almost a decade. He said the community started having meetings in the summer of 2022, a committee was formed that fall, and then they kicked off fundraising about a year ago.
Butler also thanked the generous donors, the City of Atlantic and the City Council, Parks and Recreation Coordinator Jeff Christensen, AMU who is donating the water for the pad and putting in the service lines free of charge, Rob Stamp who is doing the dirt work for no charge, the Splash Pad Committee, SHIFT ATL, and his ‘partner in crime’ Ali Pieken.
Tyler Henley, of the Henley Group, was on hand for the groundbreaking. The Henley Group LLC, out of Muscatine, was awarded the contract for the splash pad project.
The Splash Pad will be approximately 5,000 sq. ft. and showcase a variety of interactive fountains, spray pads, dump buckets, water cannons, and more. The attraction will be located east of the Sunnyside Pool.
The plan is to have the splash pad completed by Labor Day.
