(Area) Aurora Borealis, commonly referred to as the northern lights, was visible in southwest Iowa overnight.
The National Weather Service says several geomagnetic storms coming from the sun create the lights.
The Space Weather Prediction Center says geomagnetic storming is likely to persist through the weekend.
