(Greenfield, IA) – With the feeling of spring in the air, it finally feels like golf season for our high school teams who have battled through just about every condition possible this season. The Nodaway Valley Wolverines surely have had their fair share of tough conditions this season from the wind to the rain and even in the cold, these athletes have seen it all. This week marks postseason action for both the boy’s and girl’s teams as they were able to play a fun matchup on Monday to relax for the toughest competitions yet.
Nodaway Valley saw a lot of success on Wednesday with some low scores, including Zach Gebbie who shot one under par on the front nine and finished with a personal-best 73. That means that he is moving forward to districts next Monday to compete even further in postseason play. Head Coach Joel Kllobnak knows that while golf may be done for the other four seniors, he hopes that they can translate what they learned on the course and utilize that in the next chapter of their lives.
Jumping over to the girl’s side, Nodaway Valley has a pair of frontrunners with Mallory Russel and Ashlyn Gutierrez leading the way on the course. The one thing that these girls need to focus on is their mental game, especially heading into Friday’s regional matchup at the Diamond Trail Golf Club.
With this being the last season of coaching for Coach Joel Kllobnak, he just wanted the kids to have fun and learn life lessons along the way. These kids really stepped up this season and made it a season of learning and enjoyment in every practice, dual, and tournament.
While many of the Wolverine boys are done for the season, Nodaway Valley will trudge onward into postseason play with Zach Gebbie moving forward for the boys and the girls jumping into postseason play on Friday.
