(Adair Co) The Adair County Board of Supervisors held another public hearing this (Wednesday) morning on a proposed ordinance regulating the placement of large scale commercial and industrial buildings.
A draft ordinance on setbacks was put together after the Supervisors heard from Nick Phillips and Lance Cummins of Applied Digital about a possible data center location near Adair. Adair County currently does not have a Comprehensive Planning and Zoning plan which has spurred the creation of these ordinances.
Supervisor Matt Wedemeyer has stressed multiple times that this draft ordinance came up as a reaction to the concerns, but they are not targeting the data center.
The Board heard from several individuals who felt the Supervisors should not rush into approving an ordinance.

Nick Phillips with Applied Digital said their attorney looked at the ordinance and said it is not clear, there are a lot of challenges with it, and it’s probably going to harm folks other than them accidentally.
A motion was made to move forward with the draft and the third reading of the ordinance, but that motion failed with a vote of three nays to two ayes.
After some discussion, the Supervisors agreed they need to work with an attorney to get some kind of ordinance in place to protect everyone in the future.
