(Iowa City, IA) – Iowa will be seeing quite a bit of change next season in the quarterback position after Deacon Hill announced that he will be entering the transfer portal. Hill enters the portal with a total of two years remaining.
Deacon Hill took over for Iowa throughout nine games of the 2023-24 season after Cade McNamara went out with a season-ending injury. While Hill wasn’t putting down impressive numbers offensively, the Hawkeyes were able to finish the season with a 10-4 record and finished first in the Big Ten West.
Speaking of those numbers, Iowa had one of the worst seasons in team history on the offensive end. The Hawkeyes ranked last in offense with just 234.6 yards per game which is the lowest-offensive production for a Big Ten team since Northwestern who had an average of 230 yards per game in 1984. Hill is looking to move past this past season and that move means moving to another team in the portal.
On Instagram, Hill posted a statement saying, “Iowa, you have given me one of the best years of my life. I have built some of the most important relationships in my life and I am eternally grateful for that.”
Iowa is now left with Cade McNamara who still is not up to par as he is rehabbing his knee and the redshirt freshman Marco Lainez III has not had any extensive experience on the playing field. We will see what happens with the quarterback situation at Iowa and who will be at the helm of Tim Lester’s offense.
