(Iowa City, IA)- Fran McCaffery and Iowa Men’s Basketball have made their first move of the offseason with a splash in the transfer portal. Morehead State’s Drew Thelwell announced his commitment to the Hawkeyes early Wednesday morning with one year of eligibility remaining in his collegiate career.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound point guard was a part of the NCAA tournament birth for the 14th seeded Eagles of Morehead State in 2023-2024. Over the season, Thelwell averaged 10 point per game while dishing 6.2 assists and hauling in three rebounds per game. The Eagles’ point guard would shoot 43.5 percent from the field and 33.8 percent from beyond the arc last season.
Thelwell is the first portal commit for Iowa so far this offseason with the Hawkeyes looking to pursue more after the loss of Payton Sandfort to the NBA draft and the transfers of Tony Perkins, Patrick McCaffery, and Dasonte Bowen.
