(Elk Horn, IA) – Last week at the ACGC Relays, Exira-EHK’s Cash Emgarten broke the 100-meter dash school record by running a 10.83. While that broke the record, Emgarten needed to run a comparable time to that record because the timing system at ACGC went out, leaving the record-breaking time in question. Head Coach Kevin Brown took Emgarten to Denison on Monday to be able to run a time comparable to his time at ACGC and ran a 10.99, ranking 27th in the state.
Emgarten is a hard worker for the Spartans who is always working to get better each race. He currently sits third in Class 1A in the 100m dash and is always chasing after his goals or even the runner in front to put them behind.
Not only has Cash broken records this season, but he is also a leader for this Spartans track team. He is a vocal team captain for Exira-EHK who is always pushing his teammates to work harder, no matter how hard the workout or what is expected of them out on the track.
The thing that Cash is aiming for now is to decrease his time in the 200-meter dash. He is looking for consistency while aiming for a low 22-second time. It matters what he does on that first curve and on the straight to put him in a position to be a state champion.
While Emgarten is a top-five runner in the state for Exira-EHK, he wants to be right at the top. The senior isn’t just satisfied with being in third or fifth, he wants to be first in everything that he does.
Exira-EHK and Emgarten return to action tomorrow, April 18th at Southwest Valley High School with the field events starting at 4:00 p.m. and the running events at 4:15 p.m.
