Governor Reynolds Launches Grant Program To Expand Summer Meal Sites

(Des Moines, IA) — Governor Kim Reynolds has announced a new grant program to enhance access to nutritious meals for Iowa children during the summer. With nine-hundred-thousand dollars in competitive grants, the program seeks to support school districts and other organizations in expanding participation in federally funded summer child nutrition programs. Leveraging existing programs like the Summer Food Service Program and Seamless Summer Option, the initiative aims to establish additional meal sites in underserved areas across the state to ensure that Iowa’s youth can access healthy meals during the summer. Applications for the Summer Meal Program Expansion Grant are now being accepted, with a deadline of May 7.
