(Atlantic) The Atlantic Public Library has completed its upstairs renovation project just in time for National Library Week, which runs through Friday, April 13. The project took six weeks to complete, and the upstairs re-opened on Monday, April 8.
Library Director Michelle Andersen said that the upstairs received new paint and carpet, matching the renovation project completed in 2020 and making the facility more cohesive. The new flooring has a gray base and complements the oak-stained woodwork.
Andersen believes that libraries are more than just books. Her philosophy aligns with this year’s National Library Week theme of “Ready, Set, Library.” She said that the just-completed interior update makes the library relevant. Besides walls of books, the library offers space for meetings and WiFi, among other things.
According to Andersen, 150 people walk through the library doors daily. The library houses over 42,000 items, including books, audiobooks, music CDs, DVDs, and magazines. Additionally, the library provides access to thousands of electronic books and audiobooks, online research tools, supplies free WiFi on-site, and 14 computers for public use.
The Atlantic Public Library is funded with City of Atlantic property tax dollars.
