(Des Moines, IA) — Iowa lawmakers have approved amendments to the More Options for Maternal Support MOMs program, sending the bill to Governor Kim Reynolds’ desk.
Initially created in 2022 to promote healthy pregnancies, the program will now be administered directly by the Department of Health and Human Services. While proponents highlight the program’s support for prenatal care and family assistance, critics, primarily Democrats, express concerns about funding crisis pregnancy centers that discourage abortions.
Despite debates over organizations’ qualifications and services, the bill has garnered significant legislative support, passing the House with a 60-34 vote.
