(Des Moines, IA) – Strong winds are expected tonight into Wednesday evening across all of central Iowa. Winds are expected to be sustained at 25-35 miles per hour with gusts up to 50 miles per hour. These strong winds will make travel hazardous for high profile vehicles, especially traveling on east/west highway or angled highways from southwest to northeast.
These high winds combined with a few snow showers that are expected for the state may produce poor visibility later tonight into Wednesday. Be alert on bridges and overpasses that have a higher risk of strong crosswinds. Also, watch out for objects blowing across the roadway and into your path.
Atlantic and the surrounding area is expected to see wind gusts of up to 40 mph. It is advised that you use caution when traveling on highways, especially in high profile vehicles.
