(Ames, IA) – Iowa State’s Janette Schraft has been named the Cyclone Club Athlete of the Week. This comes after her record-breaking performance at the Stanford Invitational last weekend.
Schraft broke the record last week in the 3,000-meter steeplechase by earning a 9:48.20 to break the school record. This time was nine seconds better than the previous school record. Not only did this time break the school record, it is the 8th fastest time in the world this year and the best in the United States. She currently leads other finishers nationwide by six seconds. Her previous time last season was 9:57.55 and became the first woman in Iowa State history to break the 10-minute mark in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Iowa State and Schraft will head to Miami, Florida for the Miami Invitational from April 5th to 6th.
