(Des Moines, IA) — A central Iowa mother’s journey from addiction to recovery wasn’t easy, but her determination to be reunited with her son drove her forward.
After six years of struggling with methamphetamine addiction, Katey Rascon hit her “rock bottom” when her son was removed from her care by the Iowa Department of Human Services. Rascon advocates for reforms in the DHS system, particularly scheduling visitations.
Rascon’s advocacy will take her to Washington, D.C., where she and her children will participate in the Strolling Thunder Rally, aiming to meet with policymakers and advocate for stronger families and communities.
