(Cass County) – With this week being named Severe Weather Awareness Week, Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management have announced Wednesday will be the day to highlight tornado safety. In light of this, Cass County will have a tornado drill on March 27th along with the rest of the state.
For this drill, the National Weather Service in Des Moines will issue a mock tornado warning issued at approximately 10:00 a.m. coinciding with weekly weather radio testing. Outdoor warning sirens will be sounded at or soon after 10:00 a.m. in towns throughout Cass County according to Mike Kennon, Cass County Emergency Management Coordinator. Also, those who subscribe to the Cass County Emergency Notification System will receive an alert concerning the drill. This is an excellent opportunity for residents, businesses, and schools to practice their own procedures in the event of real severe weather.
If severe weather were to actually occur on Wednesday, the drill would be canceled and you should check your notifications from the Cass County Emergency Notification System. If you need to register for notifications, go to the links on the Cass County homepage or contact Mike Kennon, the Cass County Emergency Management Agency Coordinator at 712-254-1500.
