(Des Moines) The National Weather Service in Des Moines forecasts a strong weather system expected to push through the region this weekend, bringing widespread precipitation opportunities by early Sunday into Tuesday.
Forecasters say an extensive storm system is expected to affect the area from late Saturday through early Tuesday with a prolonged period of intermittent precipitation, including snow, wintry mix, rain, and thunderstorms, all likely at times.
Moderate to heavy snowfall and travel impacts are possible over northern Iowa on Sunday. Gusty winds, with 35- to 45-mile-per-hour wind gusts, are also expected as this system pushes through.
