(Elk Horn, IA) – The greens are getting greener and the Exira-EHK Spartans are looking to finally start hitting the greens for the opening of golf season. With the current weather, the boys have been working hard on their putting and short game to prepare to hit the course next week.
Exira-EHK lost five senior golfers from a very experienced squad last season. They feature only one returner junior Josh Nelson who has been through it all and returns all the experience. This Spartans team will feature a total of 16 golfers who are all competing for spots on the varsity squad. Head Coach Tom Petersen knows that these boys will have to be ready to compete for those top spots.
Looking ahead, the Spartans will be traveling to Avoca on Tuesday, March 26th to take on AHSTW and CAM in a triangular. The Spartans feature a few seniors who previously went out in the past but will need to shake off the rust in that Triangular next week.
Getting out on the course is important for any team especially heading into next week. As important as it is to work on the short game, the Spartans need to get out to work on the long game to get a few measurements out and learn to adjust to the weather conditions.
In terms of who will be on the varsity squad, Tuesday will be the first time to be able to see what these boys are made of. These boys will be tested for the first time in a competitive matchup against some local teams and some unfavorable weather conditions.
Exira-EHK travels to the Avoca CountryView Club to take on both AHSTW and CAM, starting at 4:00 p.m. We will have all the coverage for you right on our website at Western Iowa Today, weather permitting.
