(Des Moines) The Iowa Department of Transportation’s Systems Planning Bureau accepts applications for summer job positions, including manual traffic counters, traffic recorder operators, communication shop workers, continuous traffic count station calibrators, and Miovision video traffic data counters. These positions may lead to full-time employment.
Scott Suhr, Iowa DOT District #4 Transportation Planner, explains that they are looking for manual traffic counters in the field and the office.
Candidates reporting in Ames can be 16- or 17-year-olds, while everyone must be 18 and above.
Successful applicants will be given a state vehicle to drive, meal reimbursement, and lodging reimbursement. Suhr mentions that these positions pay $16.75 per hour, and a limited number of positions are available for 16- and 17-year-olds. Most applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of employment and have a valid U.S. driver’s license. However, few workers can work in the Ames Office without a driver’s license.
