(Iowa City, IA) – The Big Ten Player of the Year, Caitlin Clark, has been named a finalist for the AAU James E. Sullivan Award and the Dawn Staley Point Guard of the Year Award. She was just recently named a First Team All-Big Ten player this season alongside the other three years of her collegiate career and just won three straight Big Ten Championships for the Hawkeyes.
The AAU James E. Sullivan Award winner is determined by an AAU Award Committee, Board of Directors, sports media, and even past winners. Clark was previously named the award winner of the Sullivan Award last season and has a chance to be the second Hawkeye to win the award twice in school history, following Spencer Lee, a former Iowa wrestler back in 2019. The many members determine the award to a player that has qualities of leadership, citizenship, character, and sportsmanship on and off the court or field.
The Dawn Staley Point Guard of the Year Award is given to a player by the Phoenix Club of Philadelphia. It goes to a player who is the most outstanding point guard in the country, possessing the skills that Staley possessed during her career including ball handling, scoring, basketball distribution, and her will to win night in and night out.
Clark has put down 3,700+ points, 1,000+ assists, and 850+ rebounds in her career. She just recently became the first player in Division-I basketball history to record 1,000+ point performances in back-to-back seasons. The senior has been named to a number of awards this season, including a finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award, and was named The Athletic’s National Player of the Year. Caitlin leads the country in points with 32 per game, and assists with 8.6 per game, marking the first player to finish leading in both categories in back-to-back seasons.
