(Ames, IA) – Iowa State women’s basketball stays alive after defeating #17 Baylor today in the Big XII quarterfinal matchup 67-62. Iowa State has now won their last four games against the Bears and each in the Big XII quarterfinal.
Emily Ryan was able to change the name of the game as she knocked down an eight-point run to be able to seclude the victory for the Cyclones. The game essentially ended in Baylor continuing to foul to push themselves back into the game, but Ryan couldn’t be stopped from the charity stripe.
Iowa State was led in the game by Audi Crooks who shot 11-18 from the field and knocked down a game-high 23 points while snagging in six rebounds. Addy Brown was able to come up just behind Crooks with a double-double in the game with 16 points and 12 rebounds while also whipping out four assists and swiping two steals. Emily Ryan shot 8-8 at the charity stripe while learning 12 points and 10 assists for a double-double while grabbing seven boards.
On the opposite end of the floor, Baylor was led in the game by Dre’una Edwards with 17 points and seven rebounds while shooting 3-6 from beyond the arc. Bella Fonteroy was the only other double-digit scorer with 14 points, five rebounds, and one steal. Jada Walker was able to put down eight points and snag four rebounds while playing a tough defensive role with three steals.
Iowa State’s Emily Ryan has earned an assist in every game that she has played in, breaking the Iowa State record for career assists with 746 as she has posted five or more assists in a single game 14 times this season. The Cyclones also have continued to record a three-pointer in a total of 923 consecutive games.
The Bears led in steals 11-4 over the Cyclones while earning a 25-5 advantage in points off turnovers. The Cyclones shot far better from the field at a 47.2% advantage while Baylor shot 30.8% from the field.
Iowa State will continue on as they head to the semifinals to take on Oklahoma on Monday, March 11th at 1:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on KSOM 96.5 KSOM with the pregame show starting at 1:00 p.m.
