(Lewis) According to the Iowa DNR, they map lakes in the state on a rotational basis of approximately 10 to 15 years. Fisheries Biologist John Lorensen, who appears on the DNR report on Saturday mornings, suggests visiting the DNR website and searching for a lake map to access a link that provides PDF maps. These maps can be printed out on paper where to find boat ramps and fish cleaning stations.
Additionally, the DNR has an online fishing atlas, an interactive map that lets you turn on your location and see your position about contours, fishing structure, and habitat.
Lorensen noted March is a great time to catch large bass. He says the pre-spawn females carry a lot of weight; the water is clear in these small ponds and vegetation-free, lending to an easier catch.
