(Atlantic) The Atlantic City Council hired “Retail Coach” two years ago to help with retail recruitment and development in Atlantic. Retail Coach is a consulting firm that municipalities hire to recruit retail and restaurants. They rely on data to determine what retail outlets and restaurants would best fit the market in a particular area.
Kyle Cofer, a representative from Retail Coach, attended the Atlantic City Council meeting via Zoom on Wednesday. He highlighted four prospects interested in coming to Atlantic. He added that they are working with property owners in town to determine their willingness to sell specific properties to prospective retailers and restaurants. Retail Coach has been working with an expanding upscale convenience store for the past five or six months. Cofer said they received word last week that the company has found a site.
Retail Coach has also started working with a dollar store combo currently rolling out to communities with 5,000 to 10,000 people. Cofer mentioned that the ball is now in their court to decide which sites they like and which property owners they want to talk to.
They are also working directly with a restaurant franchisee. Cofer said they have had multiple conversations with the franchisee to get him to approve the market. The franchisee’s company currently operates over 40 restaurants.
Finally, Retail Coach works with a well-known food service restaurant specializing in burgers. They are working with the real estate director to find approximately one acre of space.
