(Atlantic) The Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce held their annual dinner Friday evening and celebrated the accomplishments of 2023.
Chamber Director Bailey Smith said 12 new businesses opened in Atlantic in 2023 and three of those businesses are downtown.
The Chamber partnered with the City of Atlantic and the Parks and Recreation Department to launch a Splashpad Fundraising project. Currently they are at around $460,000. Smith said they have also partnered with some community minded organizations and individuals to address housing, childcare and quality of life amenities. Smith could not give many details, but she said they look forward to sharing more about that as the year goes on.
Smith also highlighted the annual discounted AtlanticCash event held in November.
For the 11th year in a row Atlantic was named a Neighborhood Champion, a national recognition communities get for making positive strives towards shopping local. And, for the 10th year in a row, Atlantic was named Travel Iowa’s number one Christmas destination.
The highlight of the night was naming the 2023 Distinguished Service Award Winner. As we previously reported, that award was given to Dan Vargason. The view that story, click here: https://westerniowatoday.com/2024/03/01/dan-vargason-receives-distinguished-service-award/
