(Undated) — A new report by the Humane Society of the United States says Iowa and Ohio have the second highest number of puppy mills in the country.
The report, called “The Horrible Hundred,” looks at the total known number of puppy mills and dealers in each state. The Humane Society says puppy mills are commercial scale dog breeders who sacrifice the health and wellbeing of puppies and dogs to maximize profit.
Missouri topped the list with 31 known mills, while Iowa tied for second place with Ohio, with 13 known mills.
