(Red Oak) High winds caused arching power lines to ignite a grass fire in Montgomery County on Tuesday afternoon.
Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce says MidAmerican Staff were driving through the area and had spotted the fire and called it in around 1:12 p.m. this afternoon at 1867 Highway 48. Arriving Firefighters reported a small grass fire along the south fence line.
The Red Oak Fire Department disregarded automatic mutual aid agencies from Stanton and Elliott. Fireground operations terminated at 1:36 p.m.
Chief Bruce says power fluctuations were noted throughout Red Oak. No one was injured.
The Montgomery County Emergency Management, Elliott and Stanton Fire Departments, Montgomery County Communications, Iowa Department of Transportation, Mid American Utilities, and the Red Oak Police Department assisted the Red Oak Fire Department.
