(Montgomery County) Montgomery County Deputies investigated a two-vehicle crash on Saturday.
The press release said the accident happened at 10:14 a.m. at 270th and Highway 48. When deputies arrived, they found a 2011 Ford Fusion in the north ditch with significant damage to the vehicle. Officers learned that 18-year-old Connor A. Owens of Clarinda was driving the Ford northbound on Highway 48 and rear-ended a 2004 Chevy Silverado K2500 pickup driven by 18-year-old Bennett Johnson of Red Oak, slowing down to turn west onto 270th Street. The Ford entered the ditch and sheared off an IDOT signpost before coming to rest.
Owens claimed his brakes failed and attempted to engage the parking brake just before colliding with the right rear of the pickup.
The Ford Fusion received an estimated $4,500.00 in damage. Damage to the signpost is estimated at $300.00. The pickup received $1,200.00 in damage.
No one suffered injuries in the crash.
