(West Des Moines, IA) – With the 2023-24 girls’ basketball season coming close to closing up the books, so is Jean Berger with the IGHSAU as she has announced her retirement as Executive Director. She was just the fifth executive director in almost 100 years of the IGHSAU.
Berger made history in 2016 when she was hired by the IGHSAU as the first female Executive Director and was a visionary leader in developing the best experiences for girls’ athletes across the state of Iowa. The Union was able to make substantial progress with Berger at the helm from tournament experiences to updates for all teams across the state of Iowa.
Russ Adams, the IGHSAU Board of Directors President said, “Jean Berger’s tenure has been defined by her unwavering commitment to the mission and values of the IGHSAU. We are immensely grateful for her service and wish her all the best in her well-deserved retirement. As we look ahead, we are confident that Grundmeyer Leader Services will help us identify an exceptional individual to build upon Jean’s legacy and lead the IGHSAU into its next chapter of excellence.”
Jean was more than proud to serve the IGHSAU in her eight years as Executive Director, “ I am proud of what we have accomplished and am grateful for the confidence our leadership has always shown in me. I am excited for what lies ahead for the Iowa Girl.”
The search for Berger’s replacement has begun as the IGHSAU has partnered with Grundmeyer Leader Services to find the next Executive Director.
