(East Lansing, MI) – Iowa moves up to their 16th win of the season with a 78-71 victory over Michigan State. The Hawkeyes are now at .500 in Big Ten action this season at 8-8.
Leading on the night for Iowa was Payton Sandfort with 22 points as he hauled in six boards and knocked down two shots from downtown. Right behind Sandfort was Ben Krikke with 18 points and 14 rebounds for his third double-double of the season and his 14 rebounds also set a new season high. Patric McCaffery may not have put down a double-double but he had double-digits with 14 points and four rebounds.
Michigan State was led down the line by Malik Hall with 16 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double on the night. Hall also dished out five rebounds while shooting 7-13 from the field. Tyson Walker shot 6-15 from the hardwood with 16 total points alongside Hall’s 16 on the night. A.J. Hoggard followed up right behind with 15 points and four assists while snagging three boards. Tre Holloman came up just short of double-digits with nine points and three boards.
Iowa shot one of their best from beyond the arc this season at 50.9% while Michigan State shot 45%. The Hawkeyes were slightly favored in the rebounding game 35-34 and in steals 3-1.
The Hawkeyes snapped the Michigan State nine-game home winning streak with tonight’s win over the Spartans and have won two out of the last three road games in East Lansing.
This Saturday, the Hawkeyes will travel to Champaign to take on #12 Illinois at 1:15 p.m.
