(Des Moines) State Climatologist Justin Glisan says the U.S. remains in a strong El Nino event, and in the last six out of seven strong El Nino events since 1950, we have trended wetter than average for winter into early spring. Glisan says historically, El Nino has been producing a strong signal for warmer temperatures.
Glisan says thunderstorms occurred in Iowa two weeks ago, and southern Wisconsin experienced its first tornado on record for this time of year. Glisan says temperatures will remain above normal through the end of the month.
