(Des Moines) Nearly 50 horses rescued three months ago are available for adoption. In November, the Animal Rescue League of Iowa took in the neglected horses from a property near Madrid. Thirty-one horses are in the league’s care; the remainder are at their ranch facility.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office investigated the incident in November 2023 after finding dozens of horses needing medical treatment. The home was searched as part of a neglect investigation. Investigators found about 46 horses needing medical care.
Authorities charged a person at this same address in 2020 for failing to dispose of a dead animal.
