(Red Oak) This week, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds requested a Presidential Disaster Declaration for eighteen Iowa counties, including Adair and Montgomery Counties.
Montgomery County Emergency Management Coordinator Brian Hamman says the storm’s most significant impact was the 14.5 inches of snow.
The governor requested the funding under the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Public Assistance Program. Hamman says if the President and FEMA approve the request, the Public Assistance funding will open up.
A joint federal, state, and local damage assessment of the affected counties estimated the significant snowfall resulted in more than $8 million worth of damage that could be eligible under the Public Assistance program.
