(Des Moines) The Iowa House offers an alternative to the governor’s proposed Area Education Agency reform.
Special education services for Iowa’s K-12 schools would stay with the Area Education Agencies under the state House’s proposal. It would let schools seek a contractor or stay with AEAs for media and general education services, starting in the 2025-2026 school year.
The governor’s AEA proposal would go into effect this fall and let schools seek contractors for all services, including special education.
Iowans can comment on the House’s proposal during a noon hearing at the state capitol today.
