(Guthrie Center, IA) – While ACGC awaits to get into action in the State Tournament, the Chargers look back at a very successful Saturday at the District Tournament. Charger Head Coach Lane Rumelhart was more than happy to see the rollercoaster of a day end up in a fun ride down to state with six wrestlers going out of districts and into the tournament in Des Moines.
The six state qualifiers are Tegan Slaybaugh (120), Gavin Sloss (126), Ryder Cline (144), Michael Fuller (190), Carter Richter (215), and Payton Jacobe (285). While making it to Des Moines is an achievement in itself, that isn’t the endgame for the Chargers.
While the Chargers are focused on what is ahead this week, coach Rumelhart even admits that he is giddy about what to expect from those who didn’t make the State Tournament. Tate Fever, Charlie Christensen, and Jackson Pfrang may not be heading to Des Moines to compete, but they battled all season long, especially given the circumstances on the mats.
As a whole, coach Rumelhart is excited for his kids at the State Tournament in a once-in-a-lifetime experience. “They gave me great effort all year long. Without them putting in the effort, we wouldn’t be going down there.”
ACGC awaits the State Wrestling Tournament in Class 1A wrestling action tonight at 6:00 p.m. followed up by tomorrow’s consolations also at 6:00 p.m.
