(Lewis) The above-average temperatures in southwest Iowa have melted the ice and ended the ice fishing season. This does not mean cold weather will not return to the area, but the possibility that ice will most likely not return to a safe level for the remainder of the winter, according to fisheries biologist John Lorenzen.
Lorenzen says if you plan to travel north to ice fish, check the Iowa Department of Natural Resources website fishing reports to see what ice conditions are like in other parts of the state.
