(Oakland, IA) – On Tuesday night, the Treynor Cardinals came to Oakland with a winning mentality as they crushed Riverside 54-28. This game was all Cardinals from the beginning, as at the end of the first quarter, Treynor was leading 17-6 and continued to hold the lead all game long.
Treynor went into the second quarter and continued to knock down shot after shot while holding Riverside to just six points in both the first and second quarters. The Cardinals led at the half 29-12 as Treynor continued to defend heavily in the paint, forcing multiple turnovers. Riverside never shot one three-pointer in the entire first half of action. In the third quarter, Treynor was just short of a 20-point quarter as they added on 18 while Riverside put down nine to lead 47-21. Riverside was never able to get their shots down in the fourth as they lost 54-28.
Looking at the stat leaders on the night for Treynor, the Cardinals were led by Alexa Schwartz in scoring with 12 points on the night as she knocked in some crucial buckets early in the game. Behind her was Nora Konz with nine points, followed by Claire Schrage with seven. Hanna Swanson put down six while Jozie Lewis and Ella Tiarks also earned four points. Allie Houser, Hallie Wagoner, and Kenner Eblen all knocked down three points to finish off the night alongside Jadyn Huisman with one.
On the opposite end, Riverside was led on the night by Sydney Somers with eight points, scoring six in the first half of action. Behind her was Adaline Martens with six points and Elly Henderson with five. Madison Kelley and Bailey Richardson finished off scoring on the night with four and three points respectively.
Treynor and Riverside will both return to action when they take on AHSTW. Riverside will take them on first on February 1st while Treynor will play the Vikings the following day on February 2nd.
