(Ames, IA) A University of Florida, Law School professor, is questioning how the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation was able to obtain the data used in over a dozen cases against former and current college athletes for illegal gambling in Iowa.
“The Geo comply is a software that says, okay, here is someone that wants to engage in online gambling, and let’s figure out where they are,” said Derek Baumbauer. “Geo complies can do it much more precisely than cell site tracking.”
He says the data also could have come from a subpoena. The judge handling the case against former Iowa State Cyclone and current Denver Bronco Eyioma Uwazurike ordered prosecutors to disclose further details into their investigation that led to the charges last week.
