(Atlantic) The Atlantic Splash Pad project is in the hands of Snyder and Associates, and they are currently working through the process of putting it out for bid. Fundraising efforts began in April of 2022, with $50,000 from the City of Atlantic and another $16,000 check.
On Wednesday, Splash Pad Committee member Ali Pieken reported to the newly formed Atlantic Park and Recreation Advisory Commission that $415,000 had been raised for the roughly $650,000.00 project.
In addition to the fundraising, Pieken says conversations are underway for in-kind giving.
Pieken noted the project will be eligible for several grants from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and that list has been forwarded to the Southwest Iowa Planning Council. She says the gray water from the facility will be flushed to the Atlantic Waste Water Treatment Plant and go to the Elite Octane Ethanol Plant.
The pad, including the overflow zone, is 5,000 square feet, and the surface with the features is a little over 4,000 square feet; the entire project will have 25 and 30 features.
