(Denison) The Denison Police Department investigated a bomb threat at the Denison High School on Wednesday.
The Denison High School received a call from an unknown caller at approximately 1:50 p.m., but the caller had an identifiable phone number. The caller stated that he was en-route to the school and planning to “blow up the whole school”. When questioned about who was calling, the caller hung up the phone. Administration stated this person had a very distinct accent, which was all the information that could be provided.
Officers arrived on scene, met with the school administration who advised the entire school was on lockdown. Officer set up a perimeter around the school and blocked all routes into the High School area. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and Crawford County Attorney’s Office were called to begin a location track for this phone number. During this time, it was determined by the Iowa DCI that this phone number had been used to place multiple calls to other schools across the state of Iowa during the day.
After receiving the information of this being a possible swatting call, officers remained at the High School for the dismissal and security of the students. Officers, with the administration staff, conducted a room-to-room search of the entire high school to verify no threats were present in the building.
Agencies involved were the Denison Police Department Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, Denison Fire Department, Crawford County Emergency Management, and the Iowa Fire Marshal’s Office.
