(Anita) Anita firefighters responded to a residential fire on Saturday morning at 305 Michigan Avenue. Anita Fire Chief Eric Steffenson tells KSOM/KS95 News the fire was coming from the residence’s roof when they arrived.
Chief Steffenson says the lone occupant in the home got out safely, but he has lost everything. The Red Cross has been called to assist him. Steffenson says they received tremendous support from the community while at the scene.
Steffenson thanks Cass County EMA Coordinator Mike Kennon, a second ambulance crew to keep firefighters warm, and the Adair, Atlantic, and Wiota Fire Departments for their assistance.
Chief Steffenson says the cause of the fire is undetermined, and the home is a total loss.
