(Iowa City, IA) – Hawkeye Head Coach Fran McCaffery tied the school record with 271 wins in Iowa’s win over Nebraska 94-76. This is a big win for Iowa as the Hawkeyes are now 10-6 while Nebraska sits at 13-4.
Iowa was led on the night by freshman Owen Freeman as he went 7-8 from the field in the second half with 14 points for a career-high 22 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Payton Sandfort was right behind the freshman in scoring with 19 points while going 6-15 from the field. Josh Dix played well from the hardwood as he went 5-8 from the field and scored a career-high 16 points on the night. Dix is just the third player in program history to record 15+ assists in a game while earning his first double-double this season. Ben Krikke and Patrick McCaffery scored 12 points each while McCaffery also pulled in five boards. Tony Perkins finished things off in scoring with 11 points and 15 assists for a double-double.
Nebraska was led in the game by both Josiah Allick and Rienk Mast with 14 points and five rebounds each. Keisei Tominaga was right behind them with 13 points as he shot 60% from the hardwood. Eli Rice knocked in 11 points and pulled in four rebounds on the night while Juwan Gary put down nine points and pulled away five rebounds.
Tonight’s matchup between the Hawkeyes and Huskers was a rematch between Ben Krikke and Rienk Mast, two players who formally played in the Missouri Valley. Mast formally played for the Bradley Braves while Krikke formally played at Valparaiso University.
