(Des Moines) Iowa State Patrol reported over two hundred car accidents during Iowa’s first snowstorm of the season. They say from Monday morning to Tuesday night, they had 238 crashes. No deaths were logged, but there were over two dozen injuries.
More snow is on the way, so roads will continue having dangerous driving conditions. The National Weather Service in Des Moines issued a Winter Storm Warning from 6:00 p.m. this evening through Midnight on Friday.
The combination of gusty winds, snow on the ground from the previous winter storm, and new, fluffy snow falling tonight and Friday will lead to a significant blowing snow threat on Friday and Saturday. The blowing and drifting snow may lead to near-whiteout conditions, especially in open and rural areas, with the hazardous conditions continuing well beyond the end of the falling snow.
