(Lincoln, NE) – Nebraska had the Boilermakers on their toes from beginning to end as the Huskers upset the #1 team in the nation 88-72. This victory is the first upset for Nebraska over a top-ranked team since 1982.
The Huskers were led in the game by Keisei Tominaga with 19 points and four assists as he continues to lead Nebraska in scoring this season. Rienk Mast was right behind him as he knocked in 18 points and four rebounds while dishing out three assists. C.J. Wilcher knocked in one of his game-bests at 16 points while Juwan Gary finished off scoring with 12 points and hauled in five boards. Nebraska shot an impressive 50.9% from the field while going 60.9% from the perimeter for the best this season as a team from the three.
Purdue was led in the game by Mason Gillis with 16 points on the night while college basketball phenom Zach Edey knocked in 15 points and pulled in seven boards, just short of a double-double. Fletcher Loyer also put down 13 points on the night while Braden Smith and Lance Jones each put down 10 points on the night. The Boilermakers shot 42.1% from the field while they shot 39.4% from the perimeter.
Nebraska beat out Purdue in the steals game as the Huskers led in steals 9-1 while outscoring them 28-20 in the paint. This win over Purdue was the first for Nebraska since 1982 when they beat an undefeated Missouri team.
The Huskers are now 13-3 on the season as they’ll take on Iowa this Friday, January 12th at 8:30 p.m.
