(Iowa) The 2-Day Winter Storm has caused MidAmerican service interruptions across Western Iowa.
According to Media Relations Manager Geoff Greenwood, the winter storm has caused some sporadic electric delivery system repercussions. Greenwood spoke to KSOM about how the storm impacted their system.
When packed snow is combined with heavy winds on power lines, it leads to an effect called Galloping.
Looking to western Iowa, Greenwood told KSOM around 300 customers were impacted by a Red Oak outage. While the Red Oak problem is repaired, there is still an outage in Griswold. It is expected to be fixed within the hour for the 1177 customers affected. Macedonia also currently has a power outage for around 1000 customers, which Greenwood estimated to be solved by 5:30 pm on Tuesday. Earlier today, Malvern encountered a power outage that impacted 130 customers. This power outage was caused by galloping lines, shown in this video.
Greenwood also wants the public to know MidAmerican recognizes the impact on customers.
Greenwood explained what people should do if they encounter a fallen power line.
