(Iowa City, IA) – With time winding down, Caitlin Clark got the lob pass at the top of the key and whipped up a buzzer-beating three-point shot to help the Hawkeyes achieve a 76-73 win over the Michigan State Spartans. Iowa has now won a Big Ten-best 11 straight games.
Leading in the game for Iowa was Caitlin Clark as she not only knocked down the last-second three-pointer, but also 40 points on the night. Clark also dished out five assists and pulled down one rebound. Iowa is now 7-3 when Clark records 40 or more points in a game. Behind the Iowa superstar was Hannah Stuelke with 15 points and eight rebounds on the night. Last but not least was Molly Davis with eight points and seven rebounds.
Michigan State was led by Julia Ayrault with 16 points and eight rebounds. DeeDee Hagermann was right behind her with 14 points and four assists for the Spartans. Finishing things off in double-digit scoring were Moira Joiner and Tory Ozment with 10 points apiece. Despite shooting better from the field and from the three-point line, Michigan State still fell behind the Hawkeyes when it mattered most.
Iowa now leads the all-time series 43-30 as they are 8-3 in their last 11 meetings with the Spartans. Iowa has now won five straight games at home against Michigan State as Iowa now sits at 14-1 on the season.
The Hawkeyes will take on Rutgers on Friday, January 5th at 5:00 p.m.
