(Des Moines, IA) — The rush of last-minute Christmas shopping could be opening the door for scam artists.
Greater Iowa Better Business Bureau President Chris Coleman said no legitimate delivery service will ask people for social security, credit card and other personal information. He says it’s a good idea to be cautious any time a text or email asks for that information.
The Better Business Bureau also noted to avoid delivery scams, keep track of those deliveries. It will be much harder for scammers to fool you if you know what packages you are expecting, from what companies, and when. Also, know the delivery company policies. Depending on how you signed up for notifications, messages usually are posted within a secure online portal. Be leery of unsolicited messages, especially if you never signed up for text alerts.
